Joaquin Jerez

I am a student at Cornell University in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. My aim is to build upon my quantitative and problem-solving skills in an exciting but challenging work setting, combining my passion for cutting edge technology and working in teams to deliver high quality engineering solutions and make a positive impact.

Here are links to some of the projects I've done

CUSD Sustainable Mobility

I lead a team of 20 students in designing a solar powered bus shelter to be used by the Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (NY). I run weekly meetings and design reviews between different sub teams. This also includes presenting to city planning and transit executives. The bus shelter that we are working on is an intuitive modular design that can be modified in order to adapt to it's location.

Cornell Baja Racing

Collaborated in the design and build of an off-road vehicle in the 2016 SAE Collegiate Baja Design Series, in which the Cornell team placed top 3 across the three international competitions. Responsible for the design and manufacturing of the brake rotors, diff unlocker /cutting brakes, and the pedal bay.

Home-made Trimaran

Designed, engineered, built and sailed a 13-foot, sloop-rigged trimaran which I then transformed into a kite-boat (powered by a kite) whereby the sailor’s seat rotates and slides to counter the forces of the kite

My Interests

When I'm not designing, I'm outside kitesurfing, cycling, or riding my dirt bike. I am an adrenaline junky, so any sport that spikes your adrenaline, I've probably tried it. Below are some videos! The one on the left is a video of me kitesurfing filmed by a drone. The video on the right is my dad and me riding dirt bikes in southern Spain a couple years ago.
